
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — UCLA’s Markel Walker was named Bank of the West Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 5, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. Walker recorded first-career tri-ple-double and the first in Conference history since 2004.
The ninth player in the history of the Conference with a triple-double, Markel Walker (Philadelphia, Pa.) was dominant in the Bruins’ 73-52 win over Washington State on Saturday, recording 14 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. Walker’s triple-double was the fifth all-time at UCLA and the 14th all-time in Conference history. The junior guard/forward opened last week’s action with 16 points and 14 rebounds in the overtime win over Washington, 79-73. For the week, Walker averaged 15.0 points, 14.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists, while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor. She has recorded double-digit rebounds in her last eight games and has averaged 13.1 ppg, 13.1 rpg and 5.1 apg dur-ing that span.
It is the second-career player of the week honor for Walker and UCLA’s 44th all-time.
Riding a four-game winning streak, including a pair of overtime victories, the Bruins travel north to the Bay Area to take on California on Thursday, Feb. 9 and fourth-ranked Stanford on Sunday, Feb. 12. The matchup against the Cardinal will be nationally televised on Fox Sports Net.
